The Diagnostic Histopathology and Cytopathology unit deals with surgical, cytological and autopsy materials, and is involved in the histological and cytological analysis.
This section lays emphasis on the immune-phenotyping and cytogenetics, which is a precondition for bone-marrow transplantation. Further, High Performance Liquid Chromatographic studies (HPLC studies) are also performed for variant hemogloinopathies. Also, bleeding and coagulation disorders are established with special reference to Antiphospholipid antibodies and Hypercoagulable states.
The major sections of the laboratory are:
BACTERIOLOGY: Bacteriology, which is concerned with culture of a wide range of biological material (e.g. swabs, urine, blood, sputum), isolation and identification of potentially pathogenic bacterium and determination of antibiotic susceptibilities etc.
SEROLOGY: Serology involves the diagnostic recognition of antibodies in serum. Serological evaluations for antibodies to HIV, Hepatitis B & C and Syphilis are offered in the Microbiology department
Immunopathology unit is actively engaged in developing Molecular Immunopathology for the diagnosis of benign/malignant tumors, contagious diseases and tissue typing for solid order transplantation by PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction).
The Biochemistery unit of our laboratory is looked after by a highly competent team of physicians and lab staff. Along with the routine tests, a wide variety of highly specialized investigations are also performed such as Cyclosporin, Diabetic Profile, Tumor Markers, Iron Deficiency Panel, Immunofixation Electrophoresis, Osmolality, Stone Analysis and many more.
